Psychodynamic Supervision

Clinical Supervision for Counsellors and Counsellors in Training

Supportive, reflective and collaborative supervision

Good supervision provides more than oversight of clinical work. It offers a dedicated space to think deeply about your clients, your therapeutic relationships, your professional development and your experience of the work.

Different counsellors look for different things from supervision. Some are seeking reassurance and a secure place to think when the work feels demanding. Others want to develop greater confidence in their clinical judgement and discover a way of practising that feels authentic to them. Some are looking for fresh perspectives, thoughtful challenge or a supervisor who understands the client groups they work with.

I see supervision as a place where we think together. Rather than offering quick answers or fixed ways of working, I aim to create a reflective space where curiosity, relationship and thoughtful exploration can support both your clients' work and your development as a practitioner. Whatever stage you are at in your professional journey, I aim to offer a supervisory relationship that supports both you and your work.

I offer psychodynamically informed clinical supervision for qualified counsellors, trainee counsellors and psychotherapists. My approach is collaborative, reflective and supportive, while also providing the challenge and curiosity that can help deepen clinical understanding and professional growth.

Whether you are beginning your placement journey, developing your confidence as a newly qualified practitioner, or looking for a reflective and supportive supervisory relationship to support your ongoing work, I aim to provide a thoughtful, reliable and containing supervisory relationship.

My supervision practice is informed by psychodynamic thinking, alongside the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision and the Integrated Developmental Model (IDM).

I view supervision as a shared reflective space where we can explore:

  • Client presentations and therapeutic processes

  • Unconscious communication and relational dynamics

  • Transference and countertransference

  • Ethical dilemmas and professional boundaries

  • Diversity, difference and cultural considerations

  • Clinical risk and safeguarding

  • The impact of the work on you as a practitioner

  • Your ongoing professional development, confidence and clinical identity

While supervision should feel supportive, I also believe it should encourage curiosity and professional growth. Alongside providing a safe and reflective space, I will gently ask questions, notice patterns and offer perspectives that may deepen your understanding of your clients, your therapeutic relationships and your own developing practice. My intention is not to tell you how to work, but to help you think more deeply so that you can develop confidence in your own clinical judgement.

I believe that supervision works best when supervisees feel safe enough to think openly, bring uncertainty, and explore difficult feelings without fear of judgement. My aim is to create a relationship that supports both learning and deeper clinical reflection.

Experience and background

Before qualifying as a psychodynamic counsellor, I worked in education for over 30 years as a teacher, SENCO and senior leader. Alongside my counselling work, I taught counselling students from Levels 2 to 6 and supported trainees throughout their professional development, including skills practice, reflective learning, ethical thinking and the integration of theory with client work.

This experience has given me a strong understanding of the challenges counsellors face during training and the transition into practice. I enjoy helping supervisees develop confidence in their clinical judgement while finding a way of working that feels authentic to them. Rather than encouraging one 'right' way of practising, I hope to support each supervisee in developing their own therapeutic identity, grounded in both theory and the realities of their client work.

My particular areas of interest include:

  • Childhood trauma and emotional neglect

  • Relationship difficulties and attachment patterns

  • Anxiety, shame and self-criticism

  • Neurodiversity, including autism and ADHD

  • Emotional overwhelm and nervous system dysregulation

  • Identity, self-esteem and personal development

  • Working with young people and adults

Alongside these areas, I have a particular interest in supporting practitioners working with neurodivergent clients and those navigating complex relational trauma. I understand that therapists often look for supervision with someone who appreciates the nuances of the client groups they work with, and I enjoy thinking collaboratively about these complexities.

I have a particular appreciation of the challenges involved in balancing theory, self-reflection, placement work and professional development during training, and I enjoy supporting counsellors as they find their own authentic therapeutic voice.

Next Steps

Choosing a supervisor is an important professional decision. The quality of the supervisory relationship often matters just as much as a supervisor's qualifications or experience.

If you would like to explore whether we might be a good fit to work together, I would be happy to arrange an initial conversation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss your current practice, your supervision requirements and what you are hoping for from supervision, while also giving you a chance to get a sense of how I work and whether my approach feels right for you.

Please feel free to get in touch to discuss availability or ask any questions.
